Concerts

From Chrono Compendium
Jump to: navigation, search

Concerts documents filmed performances of Chrono music, whether played by axe-wielding shredders or classically-trained orchestras. For a full concert to be listed on this page, a video or audio recording of a Chrono song must exist. Listings are supplemented by reviews or blog entries covering the concerts where available and links to videos beside each track title. Listings are sorted by artists, who are briefly explained textually and visually in preface.

Eminence Symphony Orchestra

Eminence.jpg

The Eminence Symphony Orchestra in Sydney, Australia was founded in 2003 by Hiroaki Yura. Eminence focuses particularly on the music of notable Japanese video games and anime. The orchestra's vision is to "inject something bold, dynamic and fresh into classical music". Eminence wishes to "break down the barriers between the audience and the musicians, and to revive orchestra in today's society; particularly amongst youth". Eminence is a new and vibrant orchestra comprised of roughly 60 elite musicians. These musicians have come from many other established Symphony Orchestras such as Chen Gu who is presently Acting Associate Concertmaster at the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and other musicians who have worked with Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, etc.

Lately, Eminence has broken out of their native Australian market with one or two-shot tours in Japan, the US, and Singapore. They've gained the patronage of composers Yasunori Mitsuda and Hitoshi Sakimoto, who have appeared at their concerts and supported recordings. Their US performance at Otakon 2007 was well received and as they continue to gain more exposure, their popularity and prowess will aggregate. Please note that the first Passion! concert (in which Sakimoto and Mitsuda both performed) was professionally recorded. However, Eminence seems to just be sitting on the footage. A Passion! rehearsal preview video featuring Radical Dreamers can be watched here.

MegaDriver is a Brazilian heavy metal cover band. Their covers consist almost entirely of video game music, especially from the Genesis system (Mega Drive was the Genesis' name outside of North America). Because of this focus, the band's style has been termed "(Video) Game Metal". In fact, Megadriver's founder, Nino Megadriver, claims that Megadriver is the first "video game metal" band and that others started copying the style soon as it got attention by the media and on the emulation and gaming scene.

Select Start is the fusion of six musicians based in Gainesville, Florida, who combine their mutual love for video games, music, and their instruments (two violins, a cello, guitar, piano, and flute) to create a musical experience and sound unique to the video game music world.

First formed in September 2002 in a small college apartment, Select Start premiered the following summer in a well-received open mic performance at The Shamrock, a local Gainesville bar. The show featured pieces from Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy 4, and Bubble Bobble. Since then, Select Start's repertoire has grown to over fifty arrangements, and they have performed in dozens of venues from libraries to bars to anime and video game conventions. Along the way, Select Start has garnered fans from all over the world. The band's first convention performance, a spectacular concert at JaCon 2003 in Orlando, established them as a true premier convention act in the Southeastern anime and video gaming community. Select Start, always dedicated to promoting amazing video game music to the world, has been featured in various newspapers and radio shows including the Alligator, the Gainesville Sun, National Public Radio, and Hyphen Magazine.
